We first tried to remedy the situation with instant glue but that did not help. We cut a piece from a toothpick and squeezed it in to support the broken tooth. After tweaking a little bit, we finally solved the problem.
A message to Samsung engineers:
1. Why don't you make load bearing parts like the power switch from strong materials instead of lousy plastics? Update (August 31, 2017): This video explains why (planned obsolescence in products):
Update (June 8, 2012): As said in the comments, you can set the lid open behavior to wake up in BIOS. Restart your netbook, press F2 to enter BIOS, go to advanced tab and change Lid Open S3 Wake-up from Disabled to Enabled:
Update (May 6, 2020): Our egg boiler failed and when I disassembled it, I saw that the failure was due to the switch. Removed the switch, despite looking uglier, it is working fine now:

Thank you for sharing this!!! I had the same problem twice. The first time it happened, my netbook was still under the one year warranty (11 months after purchase), so I just sent it in to be fixed for free. The switched failed again exactly one year later. Thanks to your post, I was able to fix the problem with out spending a dime. I suspect samsung designs the switches to fail after a certain amount of use.
hi...I had a samsung n150 netbook for almost 2 yrs,the problem is when i switch it on it doesn't work no power...is it possible...i have the same problem mentioned above? the technician advice me to buy a new power.
please help me...
thanks
@Anonymous: The only way to be sure is to disassemble the netbook and look. Check the disassemble video link in the post on how to do it properly, it's not difficult.
I had this problem with my Samsung N150. I scoured the web for MONTHS trying to find a replacement slider switch --it broke when I tried to fix it-- but to no avail. The closest I came to getting one was to buy an entire case (including the slider) from ebay -- but I am not prepared to pay $50 (or thereabouts) for this one stupid part! Samsung were no help to me at all. If anyone knows where I can get a replacement part for this plastic slider please post the info here! Thanks!
Hi, I googled and came across your site. Just want to thank you for posting this up because I have the exact same problem. I opened up my comp and the pin was crooked. I tried to use the toothpick method. Unfortunately I couldn't fix it well.
In the end, I was frustrated, so I left a 'hole'.. I took out the switch and left it uncovered. Then, I used a small hollow stick, actually it's a small lollipop stick, like a hard drinking straw. Each time I want to turn on, I stick this hollow-stick in and push the button.
It works! Just that it's kind of ugly with the hole. Lol. Anyway, just wanted to share this simple method.
Thanks.

Thank you so much for posting this! My switch broke last night and my husband was able to fix it with the toothpick method this morning. I'm grateful that you took time to share this.
Thank you so much for this!!!! My local computer store wanted to charge me $65 just to look at it and here I followed your steps and fixed it with a toothpick. Thank you thank you thank you :)

here a guide to change it

I'm too lazy and after remove the switch I'm using a screwdriver to switch on
Thank you so much for this post - just fixed my netbook this morning! Who knew cocktail sticks could be so useful!
Thank you :)
same problem here. i just remove the switch and left it blank.
You can set the netbook to Wake Up when lid opened at BIOS. Default setting is off.
I want to buy a new slider, but cannot find one anywhere! At least, not without replacing the entire power unit, which I am not prepared to do. The cracked prong has fallen off, and now, to keep dirt etc out, I slot it in when I don't need to use the power switch. But I am using a plastic ice pop handle to switch it on and off. Would love to buy a replacement though!
Thanks a lot!
If your power slider is loose and doesn't turn on anymore, it's definitely this!
There is NO NEED to dismantle the whole computer... use a small, flat screwdriver and lever out the right side of the SLIDER first, then pull the rest of it STRAIGHT out...
Remember to keep the (new) or repaired switch to the LEFT while pushing it straight back in (it is only clicked in place.
I have the same problem, i was wondering if this was the correct part for me to just replce the slider? as it looks different from what you have pictured..

@Anonymous: The name of the part in ebay seems to be correct but as you said it looks quite different. I don't know...
I had to solve exactly same problem today and this was very helpful. Thanks.
"the slide switch should be other than plastic.."
Thank you very much for posting this. It has been so helpful.

So helpful! I just ordered a replacement switch on ebay for €15. Thanks for sharing this info!
Information was extremely helpful. Almost paid someone $50 just to look at the switch. Followed the instruction for pulling out the exterior portion, sure enough one of the arms had cracked. Used my tweezers to make sure to switch on, and it worked!

Thanks for this information. We also had the slide finger break and found the part number on this site, purchased part from Parts Store, used some cell phone tools, the little pry bar, to open the N150 and replace the slide. Total time involved from start to finish on the install was 13 minutes, thanks to you and your info.

I'll try to reapir the part but I can't manage it I'll buy it
Thanks for the info, P/N and sites!
I just had this problem today and I was so upset...I was scared of opening it, but I did....and it's not too hard...Mine just seemed to be out of place..but really though looks like Samsung want to make it hard for us the buyers...instead of making those pieces out of something stronger...or why not just a damn pressing button?!?!?! I got here after fixing it....I hope it doesn't happen again...SMH!
Allah razi olsun. Thanks Samil ! I did what has been told by you. I worked saved my homework which is due tomorrow :)
Hi All,
We are a UK Company and having had a customer's machine with this problem I am minded to believe that Samsung should repair this as part of your "statutory rights" for warranty as I believe that the failure occurs by "dint of design".
I will contact them and see what they say?
Iain
My power switch wouldnt work, I read all your comments and now I have fixed it myself. I did not take my N150 apart at all. I did what somone said earlier and using a small screwdriver just prised the slide switch out. It was broken, I went on ebay, got a genuine samsung replacement switch kit for 12 quid delivered, arrived the next day. Just used the replacement part, pushed it into the hole and it works perfectly, job done! Using small screwdriver, ebay uk,20 minutes work to fit new part.
Thanks a lot, I just fixed a friend's N150 netbook by following your clear instructions. The switch was beyond repair but he can operate without one. I am happy that I did not buy a Samsung notebook. The only Samsung's I use are monitors, which seem to be ok. Have a good day!
yung saken, wala na mismo ung switch, natupol ko when i side it using a pen. what should i dol
thanx a ton buddy.... u just saved my money, cause my warranty expired just 1 week before this problem occurred. thanx again...
The price keeps going up! The Geek Squad - at a Best Buy in California wanted $150 to JUST take it apart!.. but at least the guy behind the counter thought it was probably just the switch, because it was loose. So, I used the pictures and took heart from all the ways that everyone else had solved this; and indeed! the switch is busted where your photo shows. So, with a little flashlite and a tiny screwdriver, i can poke it back 'On'.. Glad for the still shots.. as this was the only computer I have that could show a 'how-to' U-tube, otherwise. Thanks everyone!
It worked like a charm.
It's great having people like you that take their time to help others to solve their problems.
Thank you very much.
It worked like a charm.
Fortunately there are people like you that take their time to help other fix their problems.
Thank you very much.
Tq so much for this helpful entry. I just took around half an hour to fix this problem because of I didn't find a suitable screwdriver just now..haha.. But I'm really proud because I can fix it myself. Hope it will not cause trouble again because my n150 is almost 3 years old.. Really love it so much..tq
Thank you for sharing this. I had figured out the power switch was broken. I was looking for replacement switch when I found this post. The info about wake from sleep on lid open was very useful as that is how I am waking up my netbook now.
Just easier buy a new genuine replacement from ebay

Regards
just fixed mine with the help of the How to I really think samsung should be held accountable to supply this part free as it is a design fault if it was a car part they would be recalling them all
bob
tried the power on with open lid option but once the netbook closes down and then I open the lid nothing happens
Eline sağlık, arkadaşım.
on my setup the lid wake up option is enabled but my laptop doesnt wake up when i open it.sorry for my english i´m from colombia jejeje
I used a screwdriver to pop the switch out and discovered the problem is same as yours. I fixed it with a toothpick. Inserted back, moved it, computer didn't wake up.
Took switch out and used a thin screwdriver to move the switch inside, to the right.
Nothing happened.
Did the netbook's hard drive just die?
@Anonymous: If the charge and sleep lights are not on, it is more than a broken teeth problem.
Thanks for the reply. The charge light is on. I had taken out the battery and the power while working on the switch so now the computer is shut down and not in sleep mode. It isn't waking up.
@Anonymous: Sorry, no clue...
Thank you - you are a life saver. I know about computers but the idea of opening mine up by myself was a bit scary. I followed the instructions on how to remove the slider and turned computer on again with a hair clip. Part already on its way from ebay. Thank you so much.
Thank you. It worked for me
Thank you so much!! I had the same problem just this morning. I am a home-based writer and relied on my netbook for practically my whole livelihood. You can imagine how terrified I was when my netbook didn't turn on. My slider has been having a problem since last year but I thought it was a technical stuff until I found this site.
Surprise, surprise! It's not something technical -- it is a design flaw. The pictures here were exactly what I saw.
I didn't open my netbook; I just popped the slider out (it didn't matter, it was broken anyway). Now I had to use a screwdriver every time I turn it on, but it doesn't really matter. The important thing is that I can now use it.
Cheers!! (I felt like having a party! :-)
Hello. Thanks to you I could turn on my computer, but I wanted to set it up for waking up when opening LID and I have a question... The option "LID Open S3 Wake-up" was already enabled, but the computer doesn't turn on just by opening it, unless it wasn't actually turned of... This means that if I want to use it I need to have it permanently turned on and just send it to "sleep"? If I do this, do it risk to get overheated or something like this? I'm a noob in computers (and in English xD), so I hope I made myself clear. Anyways, your post was very helpful.
Cheers.
@Leon: There is no risk of overheating, for more info look at this link.
PUT THE BIOS PASSWORD OF SAMSUNG N150 NETBOOK AND NOT REMEMBER THE PASSWORD. HOW DO I RESET THE POWER OF MY NETBOOK BIOS? WHERE IS THE BIOS BATTERY N150?
Thank you for sharing this. Almost got cheated by the service guy in Indonesia saying that my laptop having a motherboard problem and replacement cost is around
S$150.After reading this post, found out that problem is cause by Switch button broken. will try to use the advised method to replace the faulty part.
I had the EXACT same problem and I followed your post step by step. It worked.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to write this with pictures!! You saved my netbook!
Thanks for sharing. I removed the slider and it WAS working ok. Unfort allowed someone else to use it and clearly they were not careful using the internal button to turn it on. Now the whole internal button has disappeared. Is there any way to fix this additional problem. Help!!!
Well the Samsung Centre in London charged me £60 just to look at it (although I'd already opened the netbook and had had suspected that I needed a new motherboard) and another £125 for a new motherboard (payable in advance or they won't do the work). Not happy.
same problem in my netbook as it showed on above.my netbook switch didnot work from yesterday. Now i think i found a solution, i will try tonight.
Can you pls share an indian site from where this can be bought?Even Ebhay.in is shipping it from UK/Hongkong and taking pretyy high shipping charges.
Hi Samil!!! It worked perfectly!!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!!
Cheers from Brazil!!! =D
You have no idea how much trouble you have saved me. I was able to fix mine because of your post and the photos really helped. Thanks again for sharing this mate! :)
THANK U VERY MUCH...SOOOOOOOOOOOOO INFORMATIVE TURNING A COMMON MAN TO A TECHIE AND SAVING MONEY...FEEELLSSSSSSSSSS SO GOOD
Gracias por la información! de verdad que no encontraba por ningun lado el manual de servicio ni el part number del switch. deberias dejarlo en el post por si acaso D:! saludos
I don't know how to thank you
I'm from Philippines. I dont know where to buy n150plus switch off slide. anyone knows where to? thanks!
Is the switch the same for N150 plus? I want to know if there is any difference.
Merci Samir poour vos conseils. Le cure-dent a très bien marché :-)
(Thank you for your advice. The toothpick worked.)
@Jacky: Avec plaisir :)
Thanks Sammyone.
Easily prised out the plastic slider with a small blade on my Swiss Army knife. Now I can use a toothpick to slide the white switch inside the Samsung to the right to power on.
I've bought a chromebook and just need to transfer some stuff from the Samsung. It has given me plenty of years use.
Thank you so much.... it works!!!!
really useful post
Thanks so much, you have me with same problem too.
I cut a small nail (used for hanging pictures) instead of using a toothpick. Worked great. Thanks for posting this solution.
Thank youuuu!!
Thanks, mine was just about breaking. I applied super glue and held it to fix well. I pushed it back and hollaa, it worked
My mum gave me her 5 years old netbook to fix cuz it didn't want to start. I knew from the beginning that it was the slider switch, so openned lappy (to figure out I could just pull it out) and it was broken exactly the same way. So gave the 3 possible solutions to mum:
a) keep the hole and turn on by some stick
b) buy a new power slide for like 8 euros or 10 dollars or whatever (they have it on ebay for example)
c) fix with a bit of wood and glue
At the end we cut a bit of wooden stick and glued it with some super glue (moreless the same as up here).
I guess the reason why they make it from plastic and not metal is called money money money (can buy the part in metal on the internet, but costs like 3 or 4 times more + shipping)
Thanks a lot for this post. I had abandoned my laptop, waiting till when I'll send it out for repairs. Didn't think I could fix it myself but I just did, following your instruction! Thanks again.
